HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: This is the right move for Sonny Weems -even if there’s no opt-out clause when the lockout ends.

The energetic swing needs regular minutes in order to reach his full potential as a solid rotation player in the NBA.

A work stoppage would hurt him. So would returning to the Toronto Raptors, who are suddenly crowded at the two-three spots.

Signing a contract in Europe gives Weems a guaranteed income, playing time, and an opportunity to hone his craft.

He can then return to the NBA in July of 2012, where a market for his services should exist.
