Rumor: Ray Allen And Kevin Garnett Leaving Boston Soon
Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett are free agents this year and rumor has it will leave Boston.
HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: It's the end of the line in Bean Town.
Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett both become free agents this year and as loved as they are in Boston, it's near impossible to see a formula where these two all stars stay. Ray Allen has already made hints that he'd love to help Miami win a championship. Although he hasn't said anything officially, sources report he sees himself as a good fit to the Miami system that needs perimeter shooting and solid spacing to allow LeBron and Wade to be aggressive.
Although Ray Allen is regarded as one of the best deep threats in the game, he only averaged 14.2 points per game. It is going to be difficult for a lot of teams to justify $10 million a year for only 14 points a game. Yes, Allen shot 45% from 3-point range which is what most teams would be using him for, but his pay will definitely be cut from here on out.
Garnett pulled dropped in 15.8 points per game to go with 8 rebounds for only $21 million. He's definitely more marketable than Allen, but both are likely looking at one of their last contracts. The Celtics will likely be looking let some of their veteran players go along with their hefty price tags in exchange to free up money for young legs. Rondo is one of the top 3 1-guards in the league, but outside of Rajon, Boston has little speed or quickness. This was apparent in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals and will only continue to plague the Celtics without personnel changes. A new era of Celtics basketball will dawn next year without the big three.
