Rumor: Brandon Roy Drawing Interest From 5 Teams
Remember when, not all that long ago, Brandon Roy's career was considered "over"?
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Apparently, there is still some life left in those kness after all.
Per multiple reports, Brandon Roy is currently drawing interest from as many as five NBA teams. As we at Hoopsivbe reported a week ago, rumors were swirling that he was attempting a comeback. Now, the Warriors, T-Wolves, Bulls, Mavericks and Pacers are all reportedly interested in giving him another shot. The Golden State rumor in particular interest makes a lot of sense as current Warriors GM Bob Myers is Roy's former agent.
As far as the T-Wolves interest, assistant coach Bill Bayno was an assistant in Portland during a two year stretch when Roy was with the Blazers.
In Portland, Roy became one of the best two-guards in the league. A proficient scorer who averaged 20+ ppg in two straight seasons, he averaged 19.0 ppg in five seasons before recurring knee injuries forced him to retire. For a lot of NBA fans outside of the west coast, Roy was somewhat of an unknown, even after three years as an all-star. A career 80% free throw shooter, Roy is the type of player who does everything well (4.7 apg, 4.2 rpg, 1.0 spg) and could serve as a steadying hand on a contending team that is one piece away from turning the corner.
It's no suprise that the Bulls come up as an interested team, as their need for a solid shooting guard has seemed to exist for centuries, but would they really take another chance on an injured player a la RIP Hamilton again? The T-Wolves find themselves in a very similar situation to the Bulls, as those two teams seem to make the most sense.
Can Brandon Roy return to the NBA?
