Steve Nash Headed To Lakers
Just to add some spice to an already interesting offseason, point guard Steve Nash has signed with the Lakers.
Hoopsvibe's quick call: Finally the Lakers have a premier point guard.
Nash, who has yet to win a ring after playing in the league for the last 16 years, had been pursued by the Raptors, Mavericks, and Knicks before finally singing with the Lakers.
"The Phoenix Suns are an amazing organization and fans should be excited about their future. I hope the Suns win a championship some day soon for all the amazing fans and wonderful people in the organization," Nash said.
Nash earned almost $12 million with the Suns last season. He averaged 12.5 points per game and 10.7 assists on a western conference team that barely missed the playoffs.
According to Nash, the most difficult part of his decision was refusing a deal with Toronto, who made the largest financial offer to the aging veteran.
"The truth is I'm a bit old school .. For me, it would be hard to put on a Lakers jersey. That's just the way it is. You play against them so many times in the playoffs, and I just use them as an example, and I have the utmost respect for them and their organization," Nash said.
Phoenix had reportedly not met Nash's wishes for a 3-year deal, forcing him to entertain the offer with Los Angeles.
Lakers point guard, Steve Blake, who will most likely back up Nash, was quoted saying, "I think it's great! .. I look forward to playing with him."
Let's hope he looks forward to sitting the bench behind him, too.
