Harden Had One Hour To Mull Trade
The trade that sent Harden to Houston even caught him "off guard".
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Apparently, he got only slightly more notice than we did.
Based on information and a quote released earlier today, James Harden was given one hour to consider the Thunder's final offer of four years for $54 million dollars. Way to put him on the spot.
The seemingly rash move by the OKC brass to trade Harden even though they still had him under a contract until the end of the year is only exacerbated by this quote from Harden.
"After everything we established – everything we had done – you give me an hour?” Said Harden on Monday afternoon. “This was one of the biggest decisions of my life. I wanted to go home and pray about it. It hurt me. It hurt.”
So far this season, Harden continues to destroy any doubt about his abilities as a leading man as he turned in a flawless performance in just his second game with his new team where he scored a career high 45 during a victory over Atlanta. In the process he became the seventh player since 1985 to score 45 points on fewer than 20 field goal attempts. Over his first three games with the Rockets, Harden is averaging 35.3 ppg to go with 6.3 apg and 6.3 rpg. Not a bad start by a guy who certainly felt spurned by the way OKC seemingly discarded him.
There's still a lot of time left in the season, but Harden is off to a great start. And as he continues to put up big numbers we will probably hear more stories like this from both sides about what preciptated the trade that shocked the league, and James Harden.
