Mavs Marion Stars As Super Mario In "Super Marion" (Video)
Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion has infiltrated classic video game Super Mario Bros.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Hopefully, he has better luck with Princess Toadstool than Mario did.
Starring as Mario, Marion has to evade Goomba's, Koopa Troopa's and even Bowser in a quest to secure the Larry O'Brien Trophy. Check it out:
My favorite part is when "Super Marion" collects a Fire Flower and begins shooting basketballs at enemies rather than the classic fireball. Instead of breaking bricks to get more coins or additional attributes, Marion breaks bricks with the logos of the LA Lakers, LA Clippers and OKC Thunder prior to breaking a brick that loosens up the NBA title trophy, which is then quickly captured by villain Bowser. So how realistic are the Mavs and "Super Marion's" potential adversaries? Pretty real.
OKC is currently first in the Western Conference with an NBA best 25-7 record. The LA Clippers are second in the conference and own the league's second best record at 26-8. But what about the Lakers? Sure, they are the ultimate symbol of evil in many an NBA circle, especially amongst the Mavs fan who made this game. Currently 11th in the conference and out of the playoffs if they were to start today, the Lakers are in trouble. But not in nearly as much trouble as the Mavs, who have the third worst record in the conference and are 4.5 games out of the 8th and final seed.
Tonight though, the Mavs get a reprieve by facing the New Orleans Hornets. The Mavs haven't lost four straight home games since four years ago, and the Hornets have only won once in their last 20 visits to Dallas.
How bad are the Mavs, really? Two of the Mavs 14 defeats in regulation have been by 10+ points. They have really hurt themselves by losing overtime games, going 0-6 so far including an OT loss to the Heat on Wednesday.
Something else to feel good about is that Dirk may be getting back to his usual form. During Wednesday's loss, he set season highs in points (19) and minutes (29).
While an agile, jumping out of the gym "Super Marion" may be real only in the Mushroom Kingdom, the potential for the Mavs to make a run at some point this season still exists.
