Trade Rumor: Grizzlies To Trade Zach Randolph To Houston
The Grizzlies appear desperate to avoid the luxury tax. Trading Randolph may be their only way out.
HoopsVibe's Very Quick call: This could definitely help the Rockets, but do they really think it's enough?
It is no secret around the league that the Memphis Grizzlies are looking to dump some payroll. They want no part of the upcoming luxury tax they will be facing. It is also no secret that Houston is hungry to build a winning team. This much was proven when they showed how much money they were willing to throw down to acquire both Jeremy Lin and James Harden last offseason. Well, the latest gossip coming out of the lone star state is that the Rockets are hungry to get their hands on Zach Randolph and his 16.3 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
This rumor may actually have a solid chance of coming to fruition considering both parties appear highly motivated. Initially, Rudy Gay was the name that kept popping up in trade rumors that was going to help Memphis out of their money problems, but lately his name has vanished and Randolph's has replaced it. The Grizzlies may have found Gay simply too difficult to move with his hefty paycheck.
It is undeniable this would make Houston a stronger team and be a huge loss to Memphis. The only thing that remains to be seen is how much this is simply league gossip or how much meat.
