Trade Rumors: Grizzlies Determined To Still Trade Gay
Memphis hungry to get rid of Gay and Raptors happy to give him a home.
HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: I don't know who Gay pisses off in Memphis, but the Grizzlies want to get rid of him like he slept with the owner's wife or something.
It is no secret that the Memphis Grizzlies have been aggressively trying to trade Rudy Gay all season. The reason was always assumed to be that the team needed to avoid the luxury tax. Yet, now it appears it might be something more.
The Grizzlies moved under the luxury tax last week with a deal to send some lesser-known players off the roster, but they still appear hungry to get ride of Gay as talks rage on with Tornoto. We're not sure why. Gay is having a solid year averaging 17.2 PPG, 2.6 APG, and 5.9 RPG. Yes, he is getting paid an exorbitant $16 million on the season, but this simply the back end of a contract where he was paid less in the earlier years to get more later.
Whatever the Grizzlies' motivations are their intent is clear. Memphis wants nothing to do with Rudy Gay. The latest and most likely place for this swingman to land is with the Toronto Raptors. Talks have been ongoing over the last few days and sources say it is looking good that a deal will come together.
