Trade Rumor: Celtics In "Preliminary Talks" To Trade Rondo For Howard.
CBS Sports reports Celtics and Lakers are in "preliminary talks" in a Rajon Rondo for Dwight Howard trade.
HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: This trade is hard to believe, but with the Lakers struggling anything is possible.
Ken Berger of CBS Sports broke this story yesterday. He claims the deal hasn't gained a lot of traction in either camp, but that the Lakers and Celtics are discussing a Rajon Rondo for Dwight Howard trade possibility.
It's amazing how far we've come in just a few short months. When the Lakers landed Dwight Howard last off-season they were crowned in the media as the hands-down favorite to win the championship and possibly one of the greatest NBA teams ever assembled. Now that we're at the all-star break, a lot of those same writers are scratching their heads at how the Lakers have managed to suck it up so bad.
It shouldn't be surprising though that Los Angeles is looking for potential trade opportunities. Howard has proven to not be the solution to a winning formula and he appears to rub Kobe Bryant the wrong way. Plus, the rumors and drama surrounding Howard appear to have followed him from Orlando to Los Angeles.
Both players are injured, so that's kind of a toss-up, Rondo with his partial ACL tear and Howard with his recurring shoulder and back issues.
If this deal was to ever actually go through it would literally tear the heart out of Boston as Rondo means a lot more to the Celtic faithful than Howard does to LA. It would also take some serious salary cap maneuvering as Rondo only gets paid $11 million (a bargain) and Howard earns $20 million a year.
File this one under long shot.
