Injury Alert: New York Knick Amar'e Stoudemire out 6 weeks.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Is this the beginning of the end for Stoudemire? New York to eat his $100M contract with little to show for it.
The Knicks announced today that Amar'e Stoudemire will have to undergo a knee debridement. This is when debris is removed from your knee. This is only the latest knee problem for the Knicks power forward who has undergone surgery a number of times for his ailing knees. The Knicks are saying he should be able to return to the court in approximately 6 weeks, but some aren't as confident. Stoudemire is a 30-year old veteran of the NBA who appears to be nearing the end of his productivity.
His numbers have significantly dropped off the last two years going from 25 PPG just two years ago to only 14 PPG this season. Even with his diminishing productivity he has recently proven a scoring threat coming off the Knick's bench.
"He's a big piece to the puzzle," coach Mike Woodson said. "It's a major loss to what we're trying to do but we're going to have to wait on him and continue our climb."
"We have to just go out there and find ways to win," small forward Steve Novak said before the Knicks' 113-84 rout of the Utah Jazz. "Obviously, those are our main two throw-it-to-and-then-create-their-own-shot scorers for us, so I think our approach just has to be a little bit different."
The Knicks contract with Stoudemire goes through 2014-2015. He is set to earn $19.9 M this season and $45 M over the next two seasons. With his diminishing productivity and knee issues, it is safe to say dealing Stoudemire is a near impossibility. Knick fans are praying he's able to get healthy otherwise Miami's strangehold on the East looks even stronger.
