Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers released forward Jelani McCoy on Thursday, just over a month after signing him as a free agent.

The Cavaliers, who have begun the LeBron James era with an 0-4 start, signed McCoy October 2 as an insurance policy for their often-injured big men Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Chris Mihm.

He played just 12 minutes in two games with the club this season.

The 6-foot-10 McCoy played last season with the Toronto Raptors, averaging 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 67 games. He is playing in his sixth professional season, beginning his career as a second-round draft pick by the Seattle SuperSonics, where he spent three seasons. After a year with the Lakers, McCoy then spent the 2002-03 season with the Raptors.
