(Sports Network) - A preview of what could be a first round matchup in the Eastern Conference playoffs takes place tonight, as the New York Knicks welcome Atlantic Division rival New Jersey to Madison Square Garden. The Nets own a commanding 10 1/2 game lead over the Knicks and Miami Heat in the Atlantic. New Jersey trails the Indiana Pacers by nine games for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, while New York and Miami are tied for seventh place. This is the third meeting of the season between the two squads. New Jersey has won the two previous contests, picking up a win at the Meadowlands and at MSG. The teams will play again on April 2nd at Continental Airlines Arena. New Jersey has won five straight and 11 of the last 12 contests with the Knicks. The Nets have won two straight and five of their last six at New York. The Nets, who have lost two straight and four of their last six on the road, are 17-16 as the visitor this season. New Jersey is 12-3 in Friday games. The Nets come into tonight's contest off a home loss. On Thursday, New Jersey fell to the Detroit Pistons, 89-71, at Continental Airlines Arena.
