San Antonio Spurs 2004 Draft Preview
(Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs failed to defend their championship this season, as they were eliminated in six games in the Western Conference semifinals by the Los Angeles Lakers.
All-Star forward Tim Duncan had another solid season for the Spurs. He averaged team-highs in points (22.3 ppg) and rebounds (12.4 rpg) in 69 contests. Duncan gives the Spurs one of the best big men in the league for years to come.
San Antonio is also set at point guard, as Tony Parker showed that he is ready to be mentioned in the elite at his trade. The 22-year-old guard led the Spurs in assists at 5.5 per game and also netted 14.7 points per contest.
The Spurs have a defensive stopper in Bruce Bowen, while Manu Ginobili gives them scoring off the bench. Radoslav Nesterovic, who averaged 7.7 rebounds per game, is a decent center who can play alongside Duncan and be effective.
With the 28th overall selection in the first round, San Antonio could afford to take a gamble and pick a player that is raw and could develop into a productive NBA player in the future.
