Wizards match offer sheet for Etan Thomas

Jul 28th, 2004
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards Wednesday matched the six-year offer sheet for center Etan Thomas.

Thomas had signed an offer sheet with the Bucks worth $36.6 million on July 14 and Washington had 15 days to match it.

The 25-year-old Thomas has started in only 15 games in his NBA career, but was in demand because of his 6-10 size.

He was selected out of Syracuse with the 12th overall pick in 2000 by Dallas. However, Thomas was traded to Washington midway through his rookie campaign, despite missing the entire season with a broken toe.

Over the next two seasons with Washington, Thomas combined to play just 85 games. However, he had his best year as a pro in 2003-04, averaging career- highs of 8.9 points and 6.7 rebounds, while playing in 79 games (15 starts).

For his career he has posted 6.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
