Heat sign Qyntel Woods

Jan 26th, 2005
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - The Miami Heat announced Wednesday that they have signed free agent forward Qyntel Woods. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Woods started the season with the Portland Trail Blazers, but was waived last Friday without having played a game this season. The 23-year-old Woods had been with the Trail Blazers since the team drafted him with the 21st overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft.

Woods ran into some trouble earlier this season when he was suspended without pay for five games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. His suspension will begin with the first game he is eligible to play which is Wednesday's contest versus the Toronto Raptors.

The 6-foot-8 Woods averaged just 3.1 points and 1.6 rebounds in 115 career games with the Blazers.

The team also waived forward Jerome Beasley and placed Wesley Person on the injured list with patella tendinitis of the right knee.

The 33-year-old Person is averaging 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in 16 games this season.

Beasley was selected by the Heat with the 33rd pick in the 2003 NBA Draft and appeared in just two games for Miami this season, averaging 1.0 points in those contests.
