=== New Jersey Nets Team Report - February 8 ===
(Sports Network) - The Nets' recent string of success continued with a 107-97 overtime victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at Continental Airlines Arena on Monday night. Vince Carter scored a season-high 43 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Jason Kidd posted a triple-double with 22 points, 16 assists and 11 boards in the winning effort. Carter, who had 41 points in Saturday's victory over Detroit, became the first Nets player to post back-to-back 40-plus points since John Williamson did it during the 1978 season. Carter, once again an All-Star starter for the East, has turned the page quite nicely since joining the Nets via trade, as he has tallied 25.6 points, six rebounds and five assists per contest. The UNC product had been posting just 15.8 points per game for the Raptors. Ron Mercer contributed a season-high 14 points, including six in overtime, for the Nets. New Jersey finished 12-of-32 from beyond the arc and set a team record for attempts from three-point range. New Jersey has won five straight at home to improve to 12-9 in its friendly confines. The Nets are now 21-27 on the year and just three games behind first place Boston in the Atlantic Division. The Nets, who are in the midst of a five-game homestand, continue their slate on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. New Jersey still has contests at home against San Antonio (Friday) and Denver (Sunday) remaining this week. NJN |
