Dallas extends Nowitzki

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks have signed All-Star
forward Dirk Nowitzki to a contract extension. Terms of the deal weren't
disclosed, but the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said it's believed to be for three
years and worth $60 million, running through the 2010-11 season.
"We are glad to keep Dirk in the Mavericks family for many more years," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said. "His contribution to our success on and off the court has been immeasurable." The 28-year-old Nowitzki averaged a career-best 26.6 points last season, which ranked as the seventh-best in the league. He also had nine rebounds and had career highs in field-goal percentage, three-point percentage and free-throw percentage, making more than 90 percent from the charity stripe. A five-time All-Star, Nowitzki ended third in the NBA MVP voting last season. He has career averages of 22 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists since breaking into the league in 1998. Dallas' all-time rebounding leader, Nowitzki inked a $79 million contract in 2001 and he had two years left on it, according to the Star-Telegram. The Mavericks are coming off their best season in franchise history, reaching the NBA Finals before losing in six games to Miami. DAL
