Nuggets' Smith released from hospital

Jun 12th, 2007
Neptune, NJ (Sports Network) - Denver Nuggets forward J.R. Smith was released from the hospital on Tuesday, three days after being involved in a car accident that claimed his friend's life.

The Nuggets issued a statement, which read: "Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith has been released from the hospital.

"J.R. is devastated by the loss of his good friend. He and his family have asked that we respect their privacy during this difficult time. They also ask that we continue to keep those involved in this accident and their families in our thoughts and prayers."

The Newark Star-Ledger reported that Smith and his passenger were both ejected from Smith's SUV after colliding with another car on Saturday. Both men were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

The driver of the second vehicle along with a second passenger in Smith's SUV also received minor injuries during the crash.

Smith averaged 13 points and 2.3 rebounds in 63 games with Denver last season.
