All NBA First team SG: Dwyane Wade or Kobe Bryant By John Nguyen 03.10.2009 - Updated on 03.12.2009
| This question was raised by a good friend of mine when we were playing hoops at some park. Who earned the right to be the big shooting guard on the All NBA first team? Kobe or Wade? I truly do not know. It’s too close to call. They’re both elite players who are performing at high levels. The Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers will be in the playoffs so discussing their respective team’s record is moot. Here are the cases for each man.
Kobe Bryant: He’s the best player for the best team in the NBA. He’s currently 28 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.2 steals with an efficiency of 25.03 while leading the Lakers to a league best 50-13. Andrew Bynum is gone for the season and they’re still winning with precious help from Pau Gasol and friends. The Madison Square Garden game where he scored the record breaking 61 points shows that he is still one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. He’s lethal even with the years piling on. He’s still Black Mamba. He’s the leader of the best team in a strong competitive West.
Dwyane Wade: He has been on a tear all season. He’s currently averaging 29.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 2.2 steals, and leading all guards in blocks with 1.4. His efficiency is 29.41. His performance at the Beijing Games showed us that he was back, but no one thought that he’d be this great. He looks like Michael Jordan out there at times. The Miami Heat obviously has a less superior squad than the Lakers because they’re rocking an injury plagued Jermaine O’Neal, rookies Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley, and new teammate Jamario Moon. Wade has to get them up to speed with the system and they have to learn how to play around him. There are chemistry issues because of this, but this does not stop Wade from dominating people. The squad’s record is currently 34-29. It’s a good record considering all of the changes they made to the roster.
Please note. This is not about who should get the MVP award. That’s an entirely different matter because of LeBron James and, perhaps, Chris Paul. This is about First Team All NBA Shooting Guard. There is only room for one. Christ Paul is locked in at the point guard spot, but this spot is open for debate. I watched a good amount of them both this season. It seems to me that Dwyane Wade should get the spot because, statistically, his numbers flat out beat Kobe’s. Wade is getting more steals and blocks. That’s amazing. He’s also racking up assists like Christ Paul. That makes his case even more convincing. He singlehandedly won the game for Miami against the Chicago Bulls where he racked up 48 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks, and 5 three pointers. He hit a game winning runner 3 point shot to seal the deal. I don’t care how either player plays defense. As long as he gets the job done then it’s all gravy. I’m giving it to Dwyane Wade.
Who do you think deserves to be the First Team SG?

Posted by on 05.12.2009 | it could be both on the 1st all nba team because they pick two guards not necessarily a point guard and a shooting guard so both will be there and chris paul along with deron williams will be on the 2nd team . | Posted by on 04.10.2009 | Both will make it. It will be only the second time there has been a tie (1952). You can’t leave either out. The team will have Duncan, James, Howard, Paul, Kobe, and Wade . | Posted by Flacco on 03.25.2009 | This season Kobe plays less minutes, sits out more 4th quaters than D-Wade and Lebron. Kobe still avg over 27 a game. . | Posted by The Next Great Athlete - www.tnga.com on 03.17.2009 | KOBE!! Wade is playing so well he is making an argument for MVP this year but Kobe is the games best player and the most reliable. . | Posted by mj23forever on 03.16.2009 | stupid question, of course Kobe. way more highly skilled then Dwade . | Posted by J.Nguyen on 03.14.2009 | Dwayne Wade with another 50 point game against Utah. What what. . | Posted by on 03.13.2009 | D-wade! don’t ask . | Posted by on 03.12.2009 | dont ask! kobeee . | Posted by Step it up fool. on 03.12.2009 | OK, whatever your name is. Then you are saying Kobe or Wade does not belong to make it. That is a joke. . | Posted by Intelligence. on 03.12.2009 | They both deserve it. No doubt, and CP3 has been unbelievable aswel. Its 2 of the 3 that will get it, Wade’s stats and performances scream MVP and Paul’s general ability to make the Hornetts, a team who would not sniff the playoffs without him, one of the best in the L.Dwight, Duncan, King, Wade, Paul. . | Posted by Ur mom on 03.12.2009 | Dwade of course hes been killing. . | Posted by asfsdsadg on 03.12.2009 | D WADE BABY ALL DAY . | Posted by J.Nguyen on 03.12.2009 | So now we’re throwing Chris Paul under the bus now? You’re making me laugh here. What he’s done all year is not 2nd team all NBA. It screams "FIRST TEAM." Looks like a lock to me. He’s been a super franchise player.
I appreciate "that one guy" comments. Thanks man. . | Posted by that one guy on 03.11.2009 | And to the wade homer talking about kobe’s level... order nba league pa-------and watch some goddam kobe games.. you sound like hollinger with your statistic bullshit.Big O > michael jordan according to that moron.. LOOK AT HIS STATS!!! . | Posted by that one guy on 03.11.2009 | IF it were decided by position.... i’m hesitatnt cuz kobe is my favorite..but d-wade has been overall the best player this season.. so he should get on there.. with that said.. IF it were decided by position.. kobe would get it cuz his team has been more succeful while also puttin up great numbers.. and simple reputation of being a top dog pretty much his entire career. . | Posted by North on 03.11.2009 | Hey ronh, fresh prince and Jay. Are you retarded? As stated like 15 times. IT DOES NOT MATTER POSITION AS THEY ARE BOTH GUARD. If the spud that wrote this article realized that from day one, he would have written a different article. Or at least bring Chris Paul up and asks who should miss out. But this guy is a joke of a writer. . | Posted by ... on 03.11.2009 | All NBA teams dont go by specific guard position.. Nash and Williams were the guards on the second team last year. Kobe and Wade will both make it. . | Posted by Jay from DC on 03.11.2009 | Is this even a question? Kobe. . | Posted by fresh-prince on 03.11.2009 | D wade deserves it. kobe is great but we are getting what we expected from him. D wade took us all by surprise this season . | Posted by ronh on 03.11.2009 | I would put both on the first team. Wade basically is a pg he brings the ball up to the court most of the time. They both should make the first team for defense too. . | 1 2 3 Next >
