NBA’s Saturday Night Musings

  By John Nguyen
01.18.2009 - Updated on 01.18.2009

I’m experimenting with this since many games are played on Saturday nights. I might as well be the person to share some thoughts on each game and see how it fits within the context of the season.

Boston Celtics vs. New Jersey Nets (105-85)
– The Nets just didn’t bring shit tonight. They left their energy and jump shots at home. Wait…they were playing at home. Jeez, that sucks. Kevin Garnett had it easy. He could have gotten a triple double if he played longer than 27 minutes. Ray Allen scored and scored but didn’t do anything else. Why should he, right? They blew those dudes out the building and that’s with Brian Scalabrine starting. Have they gotten their hearts back from the Los Angeles Lakers?

Trail Blazers vs. Bobcats (97-102) – Lamarcus, Lamarcus, Lamarcus. It’s no wonder why the Blazer hardcore faithful wouldn’t mind trading you in the future. He’s merely a slightly more athletic version of Juwan Howard. How can he play 41 minutes and grab only 6 rebounds without any blocks? He’s been consistent doing this, which leaves me to say one thing about him: He’s soft. Bobcats might just be a better team that their record indicates. Emeka is actually playing like the 2nd pick in the 2004 draft and G-Force went crazy.

Hornets vs. Pistons (91-85)Chris Paul: 23 points, 14 assists, 5 rebounds. That’s all you need to know. The Answer tweaked his ankle (or knee) a bit, but it didn’t matter. He’s upset. RIP is unhappy. It’s time to start building around Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince. I wouldn’t mind trading RIP by the deadline or in the offseason.

Sixers vs. Knicks (107-97) - Andre Iguodala looked like LeBron James. Chris Duhon disappeared. Jared Jeffries starting at center? Cot damn. Is that a David Gallinari sighting?

Spurs vs. Bulls (92-87) – This was a close battle throughout. That was surprising. Despite getting 17 points and 15 rebounds, Andres Nocioni lost the game for the Bullies. He made too many blunders at the end. D-Lightning hasn’t leaped over the rookie wall and Kirk Hinrich still sucks. A trade has to be made here soon. Keep racking up those DNP-CDs, Larry Hughes.

Heat vs. Rockets (86-93) – Michael Beasley. Hey man, I’m going to be real with you. If you’re going to play like that, Pat Riley got suckered in taking you at number 2. They probably should have taken Brook Lopez instead; a true center, not some midget PF. STD-Wade is wondering, “When is Jermaine O’Neal coming?” The deal, which will send Shawn Marion to Toronto, is coming closer to reality. For Houston, Von Wafer is quietly emerging.

Jazz vs. Mavericks (108-115)Deron Williams had a nice game with 30 points, 9 assists. Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki still doing their thing though, but are they a championship caliber team?

Magic vs. Nuggets (106-88)Jameer Nelson with 23 points, but just 5 assists. Yeah, I know. They’re a scary team but that assist stat from Jameer is scarier. Dwight Howard shot horribly yet he got 20 rebounds and 3 blocks in 33 minutes. No sweat for this beast. The Denver Nuggets shot horribly; absolutely terrible. These are the nights where they miss Marcus Camby.

Bucks vs. Clippers (92-101) – The Clip Show actually won a game? Please do Ramon Sessions a favor, Milwaukee. Trade him to a team that will start him. He’s too talented to be bottled up like that.

Beasley going to defend and rebound like lopez? Lopez hasn’t been a shell of what he could be down on the block. He has shown perimeter touch lately though. Lopez needs to work on post moves, and passing out of double teams. Lopez is averaging 19 and 8 in last six I remind you. 3rd in the league in blocks also. .

You can say i have a Nets bias all you want, but Brook Lopez has been much more impressive than michael Beasley. .

Beastly, your favoring beasley over Lopez because of the points, but Lopez has him easily in rebounds and is third in the nba in blocked shots. As a rookie remember. Check your facts. By the way, Lopez is 7’0 with longer reach .

Oh yeah, one more thing Raptors fan. Didn’t my Bulls just kicked your team to the curb recently? Derrick Rose straight up dominated your team and you still post like nothing happened? Chris Bosh is the anti-clutch.

LMAO. How’s Jermaine O’Neal working out for you? Hey, I’ve been there too with Ben Wallace. So I understand. At least you might just Shawn Marion in a trade...but he’s probably just a "rent a player" for a few months. Will Colangelo give Marion his big payday? .

About Lamarcus, yes. He’s a soft player. I just told you why. For a kid his size playing 41 minutes and only grabbing 6 rebounds? He should have gotten 10-13 rebounds and 1 block by accident. He shoots the high jumper too much and doesn’t get physical in the paint that much, which explains the lack of rebounding. Look up his board average. It’s absolutely atrocious for a dude who is 6-11.

6.9 rebounds per game? You gotta be kidding me. That’s just too Eddy Curry-like.

There are people that claim that he’s a poor man’s Rasheed Wallace. HA! That’s flat out wrong. He doesn’t get mix it up like Rawsheed. LMA is a slightly more athletic version of Juwan Howard. I stand by it. I know you guys are in denial of who he really is, but let it sink in. You’ll eventually accept it. Thank me later for pointing out the truth. If you got butt hurt over LMA, go find another favorite player to root.

Christopher Sells is a good writer. Thanks for reading both of our sh*t.

Beasley has been a disappointment thus far. I really mean it. He was highly touted as number one. Thank GOD Almighty that my Bulls didn’t take him. He’s like a bigger version of Ben Gordon; a midget gunner for his position who lacks defensive effort. At least BG somewhat improved on his defense...do you see that in Beasley? .
