Alden’s Playoff Bracket with First Round Preview

  By Alden Gonzalez
04.18.2008 - Updated on 04.18.2008

Western Conference: first round

(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (8) Denver Nuggets – Lakers in six
Even if Andrew Bynum doesn’t play, the Lakers have the home court, the momentum and the chemistry. The Nuggets play no defense and will have no answer for Kobe Bryant.

(2) New Orleans Hornets vs. (7) Dallas Mavericks – Mavericks in six
Even though the record disparity is pretty big, the Mavericks are a playoff-tested team while the Hornets are testing the waters for the first time. They will be exposed by Dallas.

(3) San Antonio Spurs vs. (6) Phoenix Suns – Suns in seven
Shaquille O’Neal was brought in to match up against this team, and the Suns’ best games since the Shaq trade have come against the Spurs.

(4) Utah Jazz vs. (5) Houston Rockets – Jazz in five
The Rockets’ 22-game win streak was on sheer adrenaline. They are simply not deep enough to win a series in the West.

Eastern Conference: first round

(1) Boston Celtics vs. (8) Atlanta Hawks – Celtics in five
The Hawks have enough offense to win a game in Atlanta, but they’re in way over their heads.

 (2) Detroit Pistons vs. (7) Philadelphia 76ers – Pistons in four
The Sixers are the worst team in these playoffs, and they will get stomped in four straight games.

 (3) Orlando Magic vs. (6) Toronto Raptors – Magic in six
The Raptors are a formidable team, but they have no match for Dwight Howard, and that will cost them.

(4) Cleveland Cavaliers vs. (5) Washington Wizards – Cavaliers in seven
Both teams are pretty evenly matched, but Gilbert Arenas still is not 100 percent, and LeBron James is playing mad – big mistake, DeShawn Stevenson.

Western Conference: second round

(1) Lakers vs. (4) Jazz – Lakers in six

(6) Suns vs. (7) Mavericks – Suns in seven

Eastern Conference: second round

(1) Celtics vs. (4) Cavaliers – Celtics in six

(2) Pistons vs. (3) Magic – Pistons in seven

Western Conference: finals

(1) Lakers vs. (6) Suns – Lakers in seven

Eastern Conference: finals

(1) Celtics vs. (2) Pistons – Celtics in six

NBA Finals

(1) Celtics vs. (1) Lakers – Celtics in seven

no if philly wins a gm its gonna be because they score more points then the pistons, play better than detroit and outwork and trus me that will happen a game...Detroit isnt amazing...u really think playoff experience means that much i mean look at boobie last yr in the playoffs for the cavs as a rookie its not gonna determine if u win or lose .

If Philly does win a game, then it will be because of the Pistons’ terrible attitude when they overlook opponents and don’t play hard all the time. If you don’t think playoff experience means anything, then you need to watch these games a little closer. .

i agree with everything said here, but in my bracket, i couldnt decide between the Cavs/Wiz or Suns/Spurs. i said spurs and wizards in 7. i dont doubt the reigning champs, and i dont like the trade cleveland made before. they traded some key players, and in this series, ben wallace will be the one guarding Jamison. i think jamison can take ben since he is a very versitile player. go nets .

YA BOY: Oh, I’ve seen the Sixers play. Maybe not as much as you seem to have, but: (1) no one on that team has any playoff experience; (2) they rely on Jason Smith and Thaddeus Young as their go-to guys off their bench (come on, really?); and (3) Reggie Evans is their starting power forward — enough said. Mo Cheeks has done a great job with this team, but there is no way they will make any noise in the playoffs. And everybody that thinks they will is either a huge Philly fan or just trying to go against the grain.Don’t be so mad, buddy. This is the opinion business. .
