Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Eddy Curry had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Jalen Rose added 19 points to help the New York Knicks end a six-game losing streak with a 103-98 win over the Milwaukee Bucks at the Bradley Center.
Quentin Richardson had 18 points and Steve Francis registered 11 points for New York, which won for just the third time in 25 outings. Stephon Marbury was held to eight points, but had 11 assists and Malik Rose had 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Knicks ended a 12-game road losing streak.
"We have been getting blown out in a lot of games because we have been getting so far behind," said New York head coach Larry Brown. "The last three we have had a chance to win which is a good sign. They needed that because they are trying."
Michael Redd had 23 points and six assists and Joe Smith had 19 points for the Bucks, who have dropped two straight.
The Knicks scored 13 of the first 17 points of the game to take the early lead. New York continued to increase its lead, going into the second with a 34-21 cushion. The advantage extended to 17 points, 62-45, on a Richardson basket late in the second half and the Knicks cruised to the break with a 62-48 cushion.
Milwaukee got back into the game with a strong third quarter. The Bucks held the Knicks to just 12 third-quarter points and doubled up New York on the scoreboard in the frame to draw within 74-72.
The Bucks took their first lead since early in the first quarter five minutes into the fourth when Mo Williams converted a three-point play for an 86-84 edge.
New York, however, responded with a 9-2 surge to take the lead. Jalen Rose’s three-pointer during the run gave the Knicks the lead, 89-88, and Malik Rose ended the burst with a pair of buckets for a 93-88 edge with 4 1/2 minutes left.
Milwaukee later regained the lead, 94-93, on a Smith bucket, but Malik Rose hit a basket on the Knicks’ ensuing possession to give New York the lead for good. Marbury later extended the edge to 97-93 and Francis hit five free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Williams ended with 17 points for the Bucks, who had a three-game win streak against the Knicks come to an end.
"They set the tone early," said Milwaukee head coach Terry Stotts. "I think it was 8 to 1 in the first half (in rebounding). There were 14 second chance points. Malik Rose does a good job. I think they set the tone on the boards in the first three or four minute of the game."
