For those of you for whom puberty is a future goal, a present burden or even a recent memory, Penny Hardaway may be just another old dude living in South Florida. Those of you a little longer in the tooth (I’m talking twenty-plus here), however, will know him as a RoY runner-up, Shaq’s first star guard teammate and the purveyor of some of the finest dimes in league history.
So, you whippersnappers out there may be inclined to wonder which current NBA player Penny most resembled in his prime, and opinions differ on that. Some say that, as a lanky point with the size of a swingman, he looked like a young Magic Johnson. Others compare him to Kobe Bryant for the ease with which he beat his man off the dribble (and, if we’re being bitchy, for his ability to send Shaq running to the opposite coast).
For those in the know, though, Tracy McGrady is perhaps the most apt comparison. After all, both wore the "1" jersey for the Magic and made their name as long, lithe leapers with the ability to light it up when necessary. While I’m not certain there’s a great deal of correspondence between their respective skill sets, one thing’s for certain: Neither had a problem making spectacular plays. As a bonus, here’s one of my all-time favourite commercials, featuring the Chris Rock-voiced Lil’ Penny. If I had a nickel for every time I yelled out "The secret service couldn’t guard me!" during pick-up games at the park, I’d be pushing a Bentley right now. It transpires, however, that nobody’s willing to pay you for being a loudmouthed jerk (hence my poverty). Well, nobody except Mark Cuban, and he’s self-employed.

I almost forgot how nasty Hardaway was. As a knick fan I was never really a fan of his. Shaq and the magic challenged us for dominant team / center in the east. Those were the days the NBA was great (early to late 90s).I can barely watch today.Only wish the video was better so I could remember all the old ballers he schooled.P.S. CYE, ur hot .
