Day Four: Summer League Recap By Lance Walton

Summer League in Las Vegas is getting better and better each day. It has truly been fun to watch. Let’s look at some performances from players on day four. Marcus Banks: Had a record setting 42 points scored in a summer league game. He was 13-19 from the field 68%, 4-5 from the three point line 80%, and 12-14 from the free thrown line 86%. He put on a show at the gym where he played at while in college. As I mentioned in a previous article, I felt Marcus needed summer league to boost his confidence and improve his game.
J.J. Redick: Another player that I felt would benefit by playing in the summer league. He showed off his game by scoring 30 points. He knocked down some three pointers, had some nice perimeter shots, and drove to the basket. He played hard the whole time, and he played solid defense.
Rodney Stuckey: Played very well. He was 9-16 from the field, 9-9 at the free throw line, scoring 27 points. He also had 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers. Rodney used a variety of moves to create his own shot. He showed great court vision, but still needs to develop a PG mentality and help get teammates more involved.
Marco Belinelli: Had another good game scoring 23 points, hitting 5-8 from the three point line, and had 2 assist and 2 steals. He made some nice drives to the rim, showed nice ball-handling skills, and played solid defense.
Patrick O’Bryant: Is not making much of an impact at all. He was 2-6 shooting scoring 4 points and 3 rebounds. He had two nice dunks, and he was shooting way out of his range up to 20 feet. He hasn’t used his size much, and he’s making constant bad decisions.
Kevin Durant: Played basically like he did in his first summer league game. He shot 4-19 from the field, 2-6 from the three point line, and 8-8 from the free throw line, scoring 18 points total. Kevin had 1 rebound and 2 turnovers. He didn’t seem to make much of an effort with defense. He struggled to knock down open shots,and getting his shot off when being guarded. He still looks very nervous on the court.
Jeff Green: Had a nice game, he was 5-12 from the field, 6-7 from the free throw line and knocked down a three pointer scoring a total of 17 points. Jeff had 3 rebounds and 4 turnovers. He threw down a nice dunk from mid air,and he did a good job of attacking the basket.
Gerald Green: Made more of an impact doing the little things. He ran the floor well, used all his athletic abilities, played hard defense. He was 3-10 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line, scoring 10 points and getting 3 rebounds. He also had 1 steal, 1 block, 3 turnovers, and 6 fouls.
Glen Davis: Played much better in his 2nd game. he was 2-8 from the field and 8-10 from the free throw line, scoring 12 points with 9 rebounds. Glen also had 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, and 4 fouls. He ran the floor well, had some explosiveness, and he had some effective post moves.
Marcus Williams: Had another bad game. he played inconsistent and lazy. He was 1-7 shooting scoring just 3 points with 2 rebounds. He tired shooting a lot of fade way shots that were off balanced, when he should definitely be driving to the basket more often. The way he has looked so far, he doesn’t look like he’ll be on the Spurs roster.
Thaddeus Young: Played pretty decent. He shot 7-20 from the field scoring 15 points and getting 11 rebounds with 2 steals and 2 turnovers. He got a lot of his points from putbacks, he had some nice looks, but his shots just weren’t falling. He played pretty solid defense.
Jason Smith: Played a solid game. He was 5-10 shooting, scoring 12 points, getting 10 rebounds, along with 2 blocks and 4 turnovers. He was hitting shots from 10-18 feet. He tired using post moves, but his lack of strength caused him to struggle.
Randolph Morris: Played pretty good. He shot 5-7 scoring 10 points and getting 10 rebounds, with 2 blocks and 2 steals, he also had 4 turnovers. He showed a variety of moves in the post and boxed out well. He struggled at the free throw line.
Mike Conley Jr: Played pretty decent. He was 2-7 from the field, 4-4 from the free throw line, scoring just 8 points with 3 assist, and 2 turnovers. His floater wasn’t going in, and it was hard for him to get to the basket. His crossover helped him create space, Mike didn’t look his best on defense and he had 4 fouls.
Shannon Brown: Continues to play well on both ends of the floor. He found different ways to score points, instead of settling for jump shots. He had a beautiful steal, he drew charges, and played hard all-around. He is truly making the most of his summer league time and I believe it will show during the season.

on 07.10.2007 | I’m gonna say it now, even though its only 2 games into summer league. But I think if Marco Belinelli can play in the NBA this season, he may very will get rookie of the year. Even over Kevin Durant! Also look out for Rodney Stuckey he’ll be doing some spectacular things off the pistons bench and he’ll make a strong case to be a rookie of the year contender. . | Posted by
