Day Two: Summer League Recap

  By Lance Walton
07.8.2007 - Updated on 07.10.2007

Rodney Stuckey: Played like I expected him to. He was solid shooting 4-9 and scoring 14 points. He made 2 clutch free throws and was 6-8 at the line. He had a major turnover towards the end of the game that could have cost the team. He didn’t set up teammates well at all when he ran the offense. His PG skills definitely need some work.

Arron Afflalo: Played solid but started off slow. He looked nervous to create shots for himself and hesitant to shoot. He hit a clutch 3 point shot and made a nice key pass. He played aggressive defense. He was 5-13 shooting and scored 14 points.

Ali Traore: Played solid in 14 minutes of time. He was 3-4 shooting and scored 8 points and getting 3 rebounds. He played solid defense and showed a lot of hustle. I believe he has a legit shot to make the pistons roster if he keeps playing like this.

Thaddeus Young: Played better in his 2nd game. He hit some nice outside shots and made some nice dunks. He was 5-11 shooting and had 11 points. He seemed less nervous this time around.

Marco Belinelli: Definitely came to ball in his first summer league debut. He scored 24 first half points and finished the game with 37 points on 14-20 shooting. He hit 5 of 7 three pointers. He showed his great court vision and made some nice passes as well.

Patrick O’Bryant: Is starting to look like another Adonal Foyle, for those that don’t know that’s not a good thing. Patrick had just 3 points on 1-4 shooting. He had a nice 10 rebounds and 6 personal fouls. He just doesn’t look comfortable on the court.

Julian Wright: Played well he had 10 points on 5-9 shooting. He hit nice perimeter shots, played good defense, and ran the floor well.

Yi Jianlian: Is looking like night and day. After having a great 1st game, his 2nd game looked terrible. He was 2-14 shooting scoring just 9 points. His lack of strength hurt him so he couldn’t get shots off effectively, and he struggled defensively.

Spencer Hawes: Looked good in his debut. He played the post well using a number of his moves, he threw down nice dunks, and he even ran the floor well. He was 9-14 shooting and scored 19 points and had 7 rebounds.

Marcus Williams: Played terrible he didn’t do anything well. He looked weak physically and mentally. He lacked athleticism, ball handling skills, and it’s almost like he has lost his basketball IQ. If his passion and skills don’t come back quickly he won’t make the Spurs roster and could end up in the NBDL.

Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo will be a nice 1-2 punch of the bench for the Pistons, along with Antonio McDyess, Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson. We’ll still be the best team in the East and contend for a championship next season as well. I wouldn’t mind Ali Traore and Cheikh Samb joining the squad at 14-15 players on the roster. Samb needs to add some serious weigh though you can’t play in the NBA at 7’1 and 195 pounds. .

Marcus Williams could be a steal for the Spurs if he’d just get his head right and focus on playing to his abilities. He picked the wrong time to play lazy. His attitude will hinder his career. And he could add on to the list of talented players that didn’t play to their potential. .

I think Spencer Hawes will put up numbers like that all season long. He’ll be an All-Star big man in the future. .

I hope Marco Belnelli plays for the Warriors this season. He’ll be way better than Jason Richardson. I think the C. Mullin needs to try and get rid of both Patrick O’Bryant and Adonal Foyle. What a waste of size. .

I think if Yi plays in the NBA this year he’ll be like night and day all season. Play good one night then suck the next. .
