Five Reasons the LA Lakers’ Fans Should Not Be Excited

  By Jason Kelly
11.21.2007 - Updated on 11.21.2007

Although the Lakers have beaten Indiana and Chicago, what does that really prove? Nothing. Kobe Bryant is good enough to give the Lakers’ fans hopes, but the rest of the team is bad enough to make the rest of the fans call Mitch and demand that Andrew Bynum be traded.

1. You’re depressed that Kwame Brown, the man with the hardest hands in the NBA, is out for several weeks. That’s like being upset after Delta Burke dumps you because you know, deep down, that you can’t do any better.

2. Your big trade is for Trevor Ariza, a player who was moved out of the starting lineup for David Lee by Larry Brown and later packaged with Penny Hardaway for Stevie Franchise by Isiah Thomas.

3. Andrew Bynum is being required to mature while being verbally abused by the Colorado Mamba.

4. Lamar Odom still isn’t right. He’s one of my favorite players on that team – in the league – but the guy just can’t catch a break. Until he does, Kobe has, at best, marginal help.

5. They have to play in Boston on Friday night.

I think the new trade for Trevor Ariza finally brings a solid defensive player without giving up to much. in fact, not only can he run the court and play solid D he might even develop some O in the future. You never know.I have to disagree, i’ve seen the bookie nba lines http://ports-betting/nba-odds.html (inside info) and the Lakers look like the have an excellent shot at winning or getting close. The Lakers are clearly in good shape. As far as last nights disaster itsnice to see players stand up and take blame for a sport that has long passed being a team sport. Deep down thats really why we love college hoops.Overall I like the Lakers chances this year. I think one game is zipo and to see players step up is a good feeling that should extend deep into the season. .

I agree with Tipster. Also how much do you actually get paid Jason, since you have a high paying job. I hear HoopsVibe doesn’t even pay you thank God! .

Jason, here is a tip. Try to be an objective writer. Obviously, you are a Suns fan. A true professional would not let his home team biases influence his articles. Thus far, you have failed to do that. Stop being such a homer. No one outside of Phoenix wants to read articles from the perspective of a Suns fan. .

Jesse, you almost have a point. However, I couldn’t read past your point number 1. You argue that Kwame is useful because he has an expiring contract. That means that the only way the Lakers get anything in return is if they trade to someone who is looking to dump cap space. Not a good sign for your starting center. I couldn’t get on to the rest of your points because, well ... I couldn’t get past how your first point didn’t make sense.165 on the LSAT! Not that it matters much when you get a high-paying job! .

Lakers have started out well the past couple seasons and once again will only be several games above .500 and in a loaded Western Conf. will be lucky to get a 7th or 8th seed. They will then lose in 5 or 6 games to a superior opponent (Phx, San Antonio, etc.) again...same old story. Kobe is an awesome player, but without any real help, Lakers are going nowhere. .

Let’s run through your bullets one by one, rather than label you an idiot without justification.1.Kwame: Are you delusional? He has an expiring contract and we can’t wait for the cap room to clear up. This gives Bynum a chance to step it up.2.Big Trade: I’m ecstatic that we dumped one of our laziest players and freed up a spot on the roster should we have the chance at a veteran. Apparently we need a big trade for someone like JO, wait, didn’t Bynum put him in his place last night?3. Required Maturity...goodness, this never happens in life, what a tragedy. He’s mentored by one the greats and already looks significantly better than last year. Sometimes difficult situations bring out the best in people.4. Lamar is progressing better than anticipated and looks as athletic as ever. You see any of his one handed throw downs last night?5. Boston: Well, we may as well cancel our league pass, the Lakers are playing Boston Friday. I guess the season is over now. They will surely leave us feeling so dejected that we’ll be sent on a downward spiral to sub 500. Your analysis was completely arbitrary and made no real, convincing arguments. I see that you are a struggling author, I hope you’re a better litigator than you’ve exhibited here. .

when a team is winning there is something special going on. That is why sometimes a team looks good only on paper but we are winning here! no matter what you say. One key player addition would make us real contender in d nba. which I think would happen by february. quick pick here: indiana, sacramento, and teams who should start rebuilding. think of the 3million + lakers got from orlando plus kwame’s expiring contract. there are a lot of young guys here the Lakers could trade.or we could keep kwame for what hes worth -a solid defender. .
