San Antonio The NBA’s Best City & The Spurs The NBA’s Best Organization?

August 03 07

Steve Greenberg, a Sporting News writer, and SanAnDynasty argue that San Antonio is the NBA’s best city:

"Although I would love an NFL team in my hometown, the Spurs’ being the only pro franchise allows us, as fans, to concentrate all of our energy and focus on the team we love so dearly."

SanAnDynasty breaks down about 1,000 other reasons San Antone is No. 1, including:

1. The Spurs and their fans handle winning with class. "Do we overturn cars and start fires when we win a title?" he writes. "No. We celebrate with friends and family, maybe have a margarita on the Riverwalk and turn our focus to next season."

2. Spurs players don’t get into any trouble off the court. "They represent our city with pride and dignity."

3. The bottom line: "Nothing comes before the Spurs. That’s what makes San Antonio the best NBA town."

My Quick Take: San Antonio is definitely the NBA’s model organization. Their assistant coaches and front office staff constantly gets hired by other teams. In fact, the Spurs played the Spurs-East, in the NBA finals because the Cleveland Cavaliers’ coach, Mike Brown, and GM, Danny Ferry, were both former San Antonio employees. No doubt about it, the Spurs also have excellent fan support.

But is San Antonio the NBA’s best basketball market and city? It’s one of the best if not the best. I also believe the Detroit Pistons, under Joe Dumars, has to be considered one of the league’s best all-around organizations and markets. The Pistons are always competitive, sell-out their building every night, and usually behave with dignity.

YES, YES, YES,,,SAN ANTONIO IS THE BEST NBA CITY! As a young NBA CITY, WE HAVE BEEN DOING GREAT AND IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER. The SPURS organization is the BEST IN THE NBA. KUDOS FOR COACH POP & ALL HIS STAFF FOR MAKING OUR PLAYERS BE THE BEST, THE SPURS ARE THE EXAMPLE . THE SPUR’S FANS ARE VERY LOYAL AND TRUE FANS. THE ALAMO CITY IS AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO LIVE/VISIT AND PARTY (AND DO WE DO PARTY). I BLAME THE PROBLEM OF NOT SELLING OUT DUE TO MANY RETIREES/FAMILIES ON FIX INCOMES AND OUR DECLINE OF MIDDLE INCOME FAMILIES SINCE THE CLOSURE OF KELLY AFB. BUT BECAUSE WE HAVE GREAT COMMUNITY BUSINESS SPONSORING THE SPURS THE SPURS FANS ARE GETTING THE TASTE OF BEING THE BEST CITY OF THE NBA. GO SPURS GO! SAN ANTONIO THE BEST NBA CITY!!!!!!!!!!!! .

LMAO @ Spurs still suck. Yea that’s why they’re NBA champs. What an intelligent comment. And Detrot is better. Is that why they couldn’t get to the Finals in the first place ove the team the Spurs swept. And last time I checked, when both teams were in the finals in 05, Spurs won. I love how everyone says the Spurs are fixed even though Donaghy reffed one game of a 7 game series that the Spurs won in 6. .

Say what you want, think whatever you want, at the end of the day, what matters is who gets it done. In the last decade, its been the spurs. Like them, hate them, who gives a flying donut hole? They win, they are changing basketball, deal with it. .

I have to agree that San Antonio is a great NBA city and has a great NBA franchise. Is it the best? Who knows and who cares?! We know one thing...they were the best team in the league last year and probably will be next year as well. The poor Suns need a new hobby because basketball sure ain’t gettin’ it done for them! .
