Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Josh Smith totaled 28 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, 120-114, at the Bradley Center.
Marvin Williams had 19 points and 10 boards and Zaza Pachulia netted 16 and also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Hawks, who snapped a four-game losing skid and an 11-game road losing streak.
Michael Redd posted 36 points and eight assists and Andrew Bogut contributed 24 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Bucks, who clinched a playoff spot despite the loss. With the Philadelphia 76ers 102-97 setback to the Orlando Magic, the Bucks made the postseason for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
Milwaukee and the Indiana Pacers, who lost to the Charlotte Bobcats 92-91 in overtime on Saturday, trail the idle Washington Wizards by 1/2 a game for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Bucks cut the deficit to one on a number of occasions at the end of the third quarter but Smith’s trey gave the Hawks an 87-83 lead heading into the final frame.
Smith’s layup with nine minutes to play made the score 96-88, but Milwaukee went on an 11-5 run, capped by a pair of Redd free throws, to cut the lead to 101-99. Redd scored five points during the rally.
With the score 105-100 with 4 1/2 minutes on the clock, the Bucks got the benefit of a call from the officials. T.J. Ford’s layup narrowed the gap to 105-102 but Smith was called for a technical foul for grabbing the net. Redd drained the free throw and the margin was 105-103.
However, Tyronn Lue and Pachulia combined to net the next eight Atlanta points for a 113-106 lead with 1:43 remaining.
Redd’s trey with 35 ticks on the clock drew Milwaukee to within four, 115-111, but that was as close as the Bucks would get.
The Bucks led 30-24 after 12 minutes of play but the Hawks held a 56-55 edge at the half.
