NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at New York

01.13.2006

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Jamal Crawford scored 23 points off the bench as the New York Knicks defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 105-94, at Madison Square Garden to give Larry Brown his 1,000th win as a head coach in the NBA.

Stephon Marbury added 19 points and nine assists for the Knicks, who have won six straight for the first time since capturing seven in a row from December 22, 2000- January 7, 2001.

Nate Robinson tallied 17 points and Eddy Curry had 15 points and seven boards for New York, which is undefeated in 2006 after going 2-12 in the final month of 2005.

The Knicks improved to 13-21 this season in Brown’s first year at the helm. The New York native now has a record of 1,000-762 in the NBA and a 1,406-909 mark in 34 years as a head coach in the NBA, ABA and college.

Joe Johnson had 19 points and Al Harrington and Zaza Pachulia each had 18 points for the Hawks, who have dropped three straight and seven of nine.

With the game tied at 84-84 with just over eight minutes left in the game, the Knicks scored the next six points to begin to pull away. A pair of Channing Frye free throws followed by a Curry dunk and a Crawford jumper gave New York a 90-84 advantage.

Later, David Lee hit a pair of free throws with 3:04 remaining to cap a 16-4 burst that extended the Knicks cushion to 100-88.

Atlanta drew within 100-92 with just over two minutes remaining, but that would be as close as the Hawks would get. With 1:31 left, Stephon Marbury completed a three-point play, making it an 11-point contest, 103-92.

Frye ended with 12 points for New York, which got 43 points from its bench.

The Knicks led 27-22 after one quarter and went into halftime ahead 50-47. New York then went into the fourth with a 75-73 lead.

New York avenged a 122-111 loss to the Hawks earlier this season in Atlanta...Brown continues to be the fourth winningest coach all-time in the NBA.He has coached Denver, New Jersey, San Antonio, the LA CLippers, Indiana, Philadelphia, Detroit and the Knicks during his NBA career...His 229 wins in the ABA was fifth best in that league’s history...The Knicks improved to 9-8 at home...Atlanta fell to 3-16 on the road.
