Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Elton Brand poured in 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 102-90, at Staples Center.
These teams played for the second time in three days, with Cleveland posting a 112-105 overtime win on Wednesday night.
Corey Maggette had 24 points and Chris Kaman contributed 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds for the Clippers, who have won two of their last three games. Cuttino Mobley added 11 points in the win.
LeBron James went for 30 points and Zydrunas Ilgauskas netted 20 for the Cavaliers, who have dropped four of their past five.
Los Angeles wasted no time taking charge as it raced out to a 12-3 lead. Brand had five points to key the early run and the Clippers continued the onslaught by extending the edge to 20-4 on Sam Cassell’s basket with around five minutes left in the quarter. Los Angeles eventually led 31-18 after one period.
Cleveland missed 13 of its first 14 shots, including 11 straight, to dig itself an early hole.
The Clippers led by 17 late in the second period and took a commanding 52-39 lead into the locker room.
Brand had 14 points for LA, which hit on 20-of-41 (49 percent) first-half attempts. James had 11 points to pace the Cavs, who shot a dismal 30 percent from the floor (14-of-46) in the opening 24 minutes.
After an evenly-played third quarter, the Clippers headed into the final period with a 76-63 lead.
Cleveland, which never led, did not make a serious threat in the fourth and could only get as close as eight points.
