New Orleans, LA (Basketball News) - Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers over the New Orleans Hornets, 90-81, at New Orleans Arena.
Damon Stoudamire added 19 points and nine assists and Ruben Patterson had 16 points for the Blazers, who ended a seven-game losing streak. Abdur-Rahim shot 10-of-17 from the floor, as Portland went on to shot 42 percent for the game.
"We needed a win, especially a road win," said Abdur-Rahim. "It felt good. We’ve been losing a lot of close games and the guys needed to remember what is was like to win. We’re just trying to finish the season the best we can."
Darius Miles had 13 points for Portland, which used a 7-2 run in the fourth quarter to pull away for good.
Leading 70-60 heading fourth quarter, the Blazers saw their lead get trimmed to 71-68 on a David West three-point play two minutes into the stanza.
However, Portland scored seven of the next nine points to build a 78-70 cushion. Abdur-Rahim had three points during the run and Travis Outlaw capped it with a pair of free throws at the 6:56 mark.
The cushion later ballooned to 13 points at 88-75 and Portland cruised to the finish.
Lee Nailon had 20 points to lead the Hornets, who have lost three straight overall. P.J. Brown added 14 points and six boards as New Orleans has dropped eight in a row at home.
New Orleans, which shot 41 percent for the game, trailed 50-44 at halftime after playing to a 25-25 tie through 12 minutes of action.
