Boston, MA (Basketball News) - Mike Bibby scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Sacramento Kings past the Boston Celtics, 104-100, at the FleetCenter.
Chris Webber posted his third triple-double in five games, as he had 14 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists for the Kings, who stopped a season-high four-game losing streak.
Raef LaFrentz had 25 points and Paul Pierce 22 for Boston, which halted a two- game winning streak and lost for just the second time in its last seven games.
Trailing by four heading into the fourth quarter, the Kings opened the period on an 11-2 run to build an 88-83 advantage less than three minutes in. Bibby fueled the spurt with seven points.
The Celtics, though, came right back and managed to even the game at 92 and eventually went ahead, 94-93, on a pair of LaFrentz free throws with 3:57 left in the game. Mark Blount’s jumper then put Boston up three, but Bibby answered at the other end with a long three to knot the game once again.
Both teams then traded baskets before Pierce gave the Celtics a two-point edge with a pair of free throws. Bibby converted 1-of-2 free throws at the other end to slice the deficit to one.
After a Boston miss, Bibby drained another three, his third of the quarter, to give the Kings a 102-100 edge with under a minute to play. The Celtics then failed to score out of a timeout and the Kings hit their free throws to secure the four-point win.
"We’ve had some tough games," said Sacramento head coach Rick Adelman. "The last four we lost were all two or three-point games. It looked like the same thing was going to happen tonight. We were right there, they took the lead but Mike’s (Bibby) three (43.7 remaining) was huge."
Sacramento was forced to play a majority of the game without forward Peja Stojakovic, who left the contest early in the first quarter with a strained right hamstring. He is day-to-day.
After Boston outscored the Kings by three in the opening quarter, Sacramento returned the favor in the second and the two teams went into the locker room knotted at 54.
Brad Miller had 18 points for the Kings through the first 24 minutes to lead all scorers, while LaFrentz had 13 to pace the Celtics.
Boston went up by as many as 12 in the third only to see the Kings come back and tie the contest at 77 on Webber’s jumper late in the stanza. Boston, though, scored the final four points of the quarter and went into the final 12 minutes with a four-point cushion.
"That was a horrible loss," said Boston head coach Doc Rivers. "What I talked about (Saturday), ball-watching (on defense) would be the reason we lost the game and I thought that was the reason we lost the game, especially down the stretch."
