Celtics, Scalabrine agree to deal

07.8.2005

Boston, MA (Basketball News) - The Boston Celtics and free agent forward Brian Scalabrine have apparently agreed to terms on a five-year contract.

The Boston Herald reported that the deal is for just under $15 million, but it cannot become official until the free agent signing period begins on July 22.

Scalabrine had spent his entire four-year career with the New Jersey Nets, who made the USC product a second round pick in 2001.

The 6-foot-9, 235-pounder played just 54 games last season, but posted the best numbers of his career, averaging 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 21.6 minutes a contest.

Scalabrine was especially effective down the stretch for the Nets, as he started the final eight regular season games (7-1) and reached double figures in six of those contests to help New Jersey secure the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

For his career, the 27-year-old Scalabrine has averaged 3.6 points per game, while pulling down 2.9 boards. He is also just a 39.3-percent shooter for his career.
