Jay Williams waived by Austin of NBDL 12.30.2006
|
Williams played just three games with the Toros and averaged six points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in that span. He was waived in order to rehabilitate a nagging injury.
Williams was grabbed with the number two pick of the 2002 NBA draft by Chicago and averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 assists and 1.15 steals in 75 games during his rookie campaign.
Following the season, Williams was involved in a motorcycle accident, in which he sustained a fractured pelvis and three torn knee ligaments in addition to severing a main nerve in his leg. He has not appeared in an NBA game since.
The 6-foot-2 Williams played three seasons at Duke (’00-’02) and helped lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA men’s basketball championship in 2001.
He did play in five preseason games with New Jersey this year, but was eventually waived by the club.
Austin was forced to waive Williams because there is no injury list in the NBDL.
