Kobe suspended for two games

12.30.2005

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Los Angeles Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant was suspended two games by the NBA on Friday for his flagrant foul on Memphis’ Mike Miller during a game on Wednesday.

The foul occurred with 8:24 left in the fourth quarter during the Lakers’ 100-99 overtime loss to the Grizzlies after Bryant elbowed Miller in the throat.

Bryant was called for a Flagrant Foul Penalty One, but the elbow was later upgraded to a Penalty Two.

Earlier in the game, Bryant was cut above his left eye by Miller, which required stitches.

The suspension will be without pay and Bryant will miss a pair of games against the Jazz, scheduled for January 1 and 3.

On the year, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard is averaging 32.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in 29 contests.
