National Basketball Association Playoff Game Capsules

05.6.2005

Indianapolis, IN (Basketball News) - Antoine Walker scored 20 of his 24 points after halftime — including five in overtime — and the Boston Celtics forced a decisive seventh game in their first round playoff series against Indiana with a 92-89 victory in Game 6 on Thursday. Walker scored five straight points in overtime — on a three-pointer and a tough runner in the lane — to give Boston a four-point lead with 59 seconds left and the Celtics held on for the win. They will host Game 7 on Saturday night, with the winner advancing to face the Detroit Pistons in the second round. Paul Pierce scored 20 points with 11 rebounds for Boston, but he cost his team a possible regulation victory when he was ejected for his second technical foul in the final moments of the fourth quarter. Pierce removed his jersey and waived it at the crowd as he left the court.

Final Score: Houston 101, Dallas 83

Houston, TX (Basketball News) - Tracy McGrady poured in a game-high 37 points, and the Houston Rockets snapped a three-game losing streak with a 101-83 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of their first round playoff series. Brent Barry and Mike James combined to scored 36 points off the bench for the Rockets, who got their first win in this series since taking Games 1 and 2 in Dallas. Houston took control with a 19-0 run in the fourth quarter, turning a one-point game into a rout. Barry scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth, and James had nine of his 22 in the period. The Mavericks were attempting to become just the third team ever to win a playoff series after losing the first two games at home. They will get another chance at home when the teams meet for Game 7 on Saturday. Jerry Stackhouse scored 21 points to lead Dallas, but had just seven in the second half. Dirk Nowitzki added 19 points on just 5-of-22 shooting in the loss, and Mike Finley scored 14.
