All-Defensive Teams

May 12 08

This is a special feature from guest blogger Christopher Sells.

Your NBA All-Defensive Teams, announced today, are as follows:

FIRST TEAM:
F Kevin Garnett (also Defensive Player of the Year)
F Tim Duncan
C Marcus Camby
G Kobe Bryant
G Bruce Bowen

SECOND TEAM:
F Shane Battier
F Tayshaun Prince
C Dwight Howard
G Chris Paul
G Raja Bell

My initial thoughts involve Camby’s selection, despite playing on the worst defensive team in the league and Bruce Bowen’s curious assignment as a guard, despite starting at small forward for the Spurs. There’s always the debate about whether Kobe actually plays defense.

What I do like about the All-Defensive teams, though, is that they’re voted on by the coaches. The coaches aren’t allowed to pick players on their team, which should eliminate any homerism that might exist. This also means that writers from around the country, who spend 95% of their time watching players from the team they cover, don’t get to cast ridiculous votes because of their biases.

Feel free to discuss in the comments, as always.

how does tayshaun prince make second team. He got torched by lebron and kobe. Josh smith had a way better defensive year than prince. .

christoper sells please think about what you post on your blogs before you post it..... are blind? how could even question kobe’s defensive game? maybe you haven’t seen him play? he is one of the best lockdown defensive players in the game pus he’s one of the top offensive players. so i think that it was just right that kobe was voted on the nba all defensive first team... besides KG ang marcus camby, kobe was among the favorites to win the defensive player award...... .

why bruce bowen was on the guard position, his an small forward. not convincing. duncan and garnet was forward and then they put bowen in the guard spot. i theink they cant remove garnet from 1st team because his the DPOY and duncan was a winner every year of the award. raja bell or cris paul for the 1st team selection. BRUCE BOWEN IS A SUCK!!! .

come on man....kobe is a lockdown defender....here’s a pickle: bruce bowen ONLY has to focus on defense....while kobe drops 35 a night AND plays defense. Nuff said. .
