Pistons and Suns Possible Selections 05.18.2007 - Updated on 05.18.2007
 | | | | | | | | | | In this article I will discuss the two playoff teams that have multiple first round selections, and what players they may select with those picks. This year the Detroit Pistons have both their first and second round draft picks, plus the first round pick from the Orlando Magic to complete the Darko Milicic trade. They could possibly have 7 spots open depending on what they do with the contacts of Chris Webber, Dale Davis, Antonio McDyess, Chauncey Billups, Flip Murray, Amir Johnson, and Wil Blalock. Most likely they will retain at least 4 of these players, and the bulk of their cap space would be gone, so then they’ll have to turn the draft to complete the team. With their 1st selection more than likely they’ll go with the best player available possibly like Acie Law, Jeff Green, or Al Thornton. With their second selection I think the pistons would go more with a player that fits their style of play like a Alando Tucker, Aaron Gray, Morris Almond or Jared Dudley. With their 2nd round selection I think they could either look for a player that has a chance to be a final piece to their roster, or pick a player to send overseas or the NBDL for more development like Trey Johnson, Russell Carter, Kyrylo Fesenko, or Joao Gomes. Overall how they go about their off-season will be key for the Pistons. This year the Phoenix Suns have their own 1st and 2nd round picks, along with two other ones from Atlanta and Cleveland to complete past deals. They have 4 free agents and none of them are in the Suns plans next year. Coach D’Antoni only likes to use the same 7-8 players all season long. The Suns don’t have a lot of cap space and may try to free it up by looking for the right deal and possibly let Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, or Marcus Banks go. Most of their key moves will come through the draft to reload this team with young fresh legs that can plug right into the the suns system. With their 1st selection I think the suns will go with a big guy who fits their style of play right now like Yi Jianlian, Brandan Wright, or Al Horford. With their second selection I think the suns would go with the best available combo guard like Marcus Williams, Rodney Stuckey, or Rudy Fernandez. With their final first round selection I think they could go either with the best player available or a versatile big man that can contribute right now like Kyle Visser, Aaron Gray, or Nick Fazekas. With their 2nd round selection they may select a player that can go overseas or to the NBDL like Kyrylo Fesenko, D.J. Strawberry, or DaShaun Wood. Overall the Suns will have the most picks in the draft and have a lot of options in how they will go about their present and future years for the franchise. |

Posted by MS.T on 05.28.2007 | WHAT IS THE SUNS THINKIN BOUT THEY MIGHT LET GO OF THA MATRIX OR AMARE...THEY HAVE LOST THERE MINDS...IF ANYONE THEY SHOULD LET GO WILL B MARCUS BANKS BUT HE IS ALSO A GOOD PLAYER...BUT I HOPE THAT THE SUNS MAKE THE RIGHT PICK... . | Posted by qhaz on 05.23.2007 | haha...no ATL pick for the Suns....how ironic. Pistons should trade up for Noah - use Nazr or Flip or both if nessesary to go with Noah!! . | Posted by on 05.23.2007 | I think Trey Johnson is the 2nd Round steal of the draft. I know most people didn’t get the see the first round game of Jackson State vs. Florida in the Tourney, but I did. That game was close in the first half simply because of him. Florida locked down every other guard they played the rest of the tournament. But that game, they had to start off the second half with a triple team on the guy, because he was constantly beating their double teams.. Small school or not the kid can play. . | Posted by whatever on 05.22.2007 | My suns mock. 4th pick;Al Horford 24th pick;Javaris Crittenton Better than any other pgs like rudy fernandez, rodney stuckey or marcus.29th pick;Alando Tucker is going to be the future replacement for the Matrix. . | Posted by Mike in Brazil on 05.20.2007 | The suns should sign Anderson Varejao to a deal, select Yi Jianlian with the first pick, Trade Kurt Thomas and Marcus Banks some how, select J. Crittenton with the next selection and with their last selection take Marc Gasol or Daequan Cook. They would be a great way to reload for the present and future! . | Posted by Meng Wang on 05.18.2007 | Common Rudy Fernandez is perfect for the suns, along with Yi Jianlian, and Marcus Williams. The Pistons would be good to go with Al Thornton and Aaron Gray, and they should be the ones to scoop up D.J. Strawberry. They would be the perfect draft for both teams. . | Posted by on 05.18.2007 | I think Horford or B.Wright would be a better fit than Yi for the Suns. I also think Stuckey is a better choice than Williams, and Visser is the better choice than Fazekas. I agree with ZK about D.J. being a good fit for Phoenix, that would be a nice choice also. Overall they’ll get an A+ for the draft. Detroit would do good by getting Law, Tucker, and letting C-Webb go, and let Maxiell and Johnson get some more time, and hopefully find a decent short-term center to play atleast 15-20 mins a game. They would would get a B+. . | Posted by Steve J. Williams on 05.18.2007 | I’m excited about both teams futures, they’re already two of the top 5 teams in the league, that got good chemistry with the core players, that got alot of picks to add fresh legs, good veteran coaches and front office. Skys the limit for both squads for the next 3-4-5 years, if nothing unfornate happens of course. . | Posted by Tim on 05.18.2007 | He decent ain’t nothing to get too hyped about though, it’s not like coach Mike would play him anyway, he play the same exact players no matter what. But you should be excited if you get Yi, Rodney Stuckey, and Fazekas, that make a good bench, to rest the starters wirh. . | Posted by Darris York on 05.18.2007 | Does anyone know if this Kyrylo Fesenko is any good? I just started hearing about him recently, I can’t get too excited if the Suns got him cause I know nothing about him. . | Posted by Rico Frames on 05.18.2007 | I think C-Webb will bolt to NY, freeing up some money and a roster spot for DP, so I think that Sheed would move to Center, McDyess will start again, and Maxiell would be the 6th man. DP will select Law so he can eventually take Billups spot, take Aaron Gray with the other pick cause they need some size for the center spot, and they’ll take Trey Johnson he’ll be a good versatile player for their system. They’ll have a good contributers like A. Johnson, Delfino, and some key free agent to help keep them cracking on all cylinders. . | Posted by on 05.18.2007 | In my opinion these two teams we’ll be number one and two each year for atleast another 3 years, they have that much talent and chemistry to make it happen. . | Posted by ZK on 05.18.2007 | I’am HUGE D.J Stawberry fan, I love to see him on the Suns that’s a perfect fit for him, plus he provides some much needed perimeter D for them, him and Barbosa together on the court would out run everyone in the league. He’d be a major stael for them. . | Posted by DETROIT BASKETBALL! on 05.18.2007 | They won’t be sweeter than Detroit, this years champs again. If we keep our core, plus reload with our talent, the suns won’t even touch the pistons in a matchup. Our Core would be deeper and better. Billups, Hamiltion, Prince, Wallace, McDyess, Maxiell, Law, Tucker, Amir Johnson, Delfino, Joao Gomes. We’d dominate the league for another 4 years atleast. . | Posted by Go Suns! on 05.18.2007 | Phoenix is gonna be sweet for the next 5 years, if they keep the core players Nash, The Matrix, Amare, The Speedster, Diaw, ,Bell, plus you add Jianlian, M.Williams, and Fazekas. That would be a fun team to watch! . | Posted by on 05.18.2007 | Man PLEASE thats garbage talk. Thus ain’t no Ben Wallace, it’s a MUST to bring Chauncey back and still take Law and have him be mentored by Chauncey. . | Posted by on 05.18.2007 | the pistons should let chauncey billups go, don’t sign him to a max deal sign and trade him, i think he’d be the type of player that wouldn’t play the same when he gets his deal. acie law is a good selection, mold him into the future PG, and find a bervin knight or damon stoudemire to fill in until law is ready to take over full time. . | 1 2 Next >
