NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Philadelphia

04.20.2005

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Kyle Korver paced six players in double figures with 21 points as the Philadelphia 76ers rolled to a 110-86 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in the regular-season finale for both teams at the Wachovia Center.

Allen Iverson, Willie Green and Josh Davis netted 16 points apiece for Philadelphia, which is now assured of at least the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers could grab the sixth spot for the upcoming playoffs if Indiana loses to Chicago on Wednesday.

Iverson scored all of his points in the first quarter and then sat out the remainder of the contest. Andre Iguodala and Marc Jackson each scored 12 points for the 76ers, who posted a 43-39 record after finishing the regular season with victories in eight of their last 10 contests.

Tyronn Lue paced the Hawks with 20 points. Josh Smith collected 18 points and 13 rebounds for Atlanta, which dropped 19 of its final 21 contests to conclude a miserable campaign at 13-69.

Philadelphia wasted little time taking control. Iverson nailed a pair of three-pointers and Korver added a shot from beyond the arc during a 19-2 burst that gave the 76ers a 21-4 advantage just 4:25 into the game.

The 76ers stretched the margin to 20 later in the opening quarter and held a 37-19 lead after 12 minutes.

Philadelphia continued to pour it on in the second quarter, opening the period with a 13-3 spurt keyed by five points from Green to take a commanding 50-22 advantage.

After the Hawks got within 56-34, Korver hit consecutive three-pointers to push the lead back to 28 with 2:17 left in the stanza.

The 76ers eventually carried a 67-38 lead into the locker room. Philadelphia was coming off a season-high 70-point performance in the first half on Monday against Milwaukee.

Atlanta tried to battle back in the third quarter. Josh Childress’ jumper with 8:57 remaining in the period cut the deficit to 69-52. The 76ers then received two free throws from Jackson and a three-pointer from Korver to move in front 74-52.

Philadelphia held a 90-67 advantage after 36 minutes and was not threatened in the fourth quarter. The 76ers led by as many as 30 in the final period, as Green’s foul shot with 3:08 left made it 106-76.

Philadelphia’s Chris Webber missed the game after being placed on the injured list with left knee synovitis. He is expected to be ready for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the club activated forward Michael Bradley from the injured list and he scored nine points in eight minutes. Bradley was sidelined with a calf injury...Iverson had scored at least 20 points in 57 straight games...The 76ers won the season series from the Hawks, 3-1, and have captured 16 of the last 22 meetings between the two teams...Childress ended with 15 points...Atlanta finished the campaign with a 4-37 road record and dropped 30 of its last 32 contests away from home...The Hawks missed the playoffs for the sixth straight season...Atlanta was 1-17 on Wednesday during the 2004-05 campaign.
