NBA Game Summary - LA Clippers at Miami

01.30.2006

Miami, FL (Basketball News) - Dwyane Wade had 28 points, 11 assists and four blocks to lead the Miami Heat over the Los Angeles Clippers, 118-114, at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Shaquille O’Neal added 25 points, eight boards and three blocks for the Heat, who have won three in a row. Gary Payton recorded 19 points, seven assists and six boards for Miami, which had six players score in double figures on its way to its fifth win in six outings.

Elton Brand had 31 points, six boards and three blocks for the Clippers, who had a five-game winning streak halted. Cuttino Mobley added 28 points and 11 assists for Los Angeles, which was looking to record its first six-game winning streak in 14 years.

The entire fourth quarter was closely contested and the Clippers grabbed their first lead of the stanza on a Sam Cassell three-pointer with 2 1/2 minutes left, 109-108.

However, the Heat scored the next seven points to secure the game. O’Neal drained a pair from the free throw line on the Heat’s next possession for the lead. Then, after Mobley missed on the other end, James Posey hit a three- pointer with 1:38 on the clock to increase the advantage to 113-108. Udonis Haslem later drained a pair of free throws to cap the burst.

Los Angeles drew within 115-114 on a James Singleton three-pointer with 8.9 seconds left, but Mobley fouled Wade before the ensuing inbounds pass. The violation gave the Heat a free throw and possession. Haslem drained the free throw attempt and Wade hit a pair from the line with 7.8 left to ice the contest.

Posey ended with 17 points and Haslem had 14 for the Heat, who spilt the season series with the Clippers for a second straight year.

Cassell added 18 points and seven assists for LA, which began a six-game road trip in disappointing fashion.

The Heat ran out to a 42-33 lead after one quarter and carried a 67-62 edge into halftime.

Los Angeles scored 17 of the first 24 points of the third quarter to forge ahead 79-74. Cassell’s bucket with a little more than 6 1/2 minutes remaining in the stanza capped the surge. Later, Mobley drained a three-pointer to give the Clippers their largest lead to that point, 84-78, with 3:01 left.

The Heat, however, scored the final eight points of the stanza to go into the fourth ahead 86-84. Alonzo Mourning then made it a 10-0 run with his dunk in the early stages of the fourth for an 88-84 edge.

Mourning had 10 points to round out the Heat’s double-digit scorers.
