NBA Game Summary - New York at Sacramento

Sacramento, CA (Basketball News) - Rookie Channing Frye delivered 19 points in 17 minutes off the bench and Larry Brown finally achieved his first victory with the New York Knicks with a 105-95 decision over Sacramento at ARCO Arena.

Frye went 8-of-13 from the field to lead six New York players in double figures and the Knicks shot nearly 54 percent as a team to avoid an 0-6 start. Stephon Marbury added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Eddy Curry had 16 along with eight rebounds.

Peja Stojakovic netted 31 points in a losing cause for the Kings, who have dropped five of their first seven contests. Mike Bibby scored 18 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim posted 14 along with a game-best 13 boards before being ejected in the final minute.

New York blew significant halftime cushions in recent defeats to Portland and Golden State on its current West Coast road trip, but led from start to finish this time around.

Up 17-13 with three minutes left in the first quarter, the Knicks went on a 9-0 run to break the game open. Frye had seven points during the burst and capped it with a short jumper and free throw with 49 seconds left in the period.

New York continued to pour it on once the second quarter began, and the margin reached 19 points when Jamal Crawford buried a three-pointer 2 1/2 minutes into the frame to make the score 38-19.

Sacramento gradually chipped away at the lead and got within 11 points on a few occasions, the last coming on Brian Skinner’s inside bucket with 3:50 remaining before intermission. However a 7-1 spurt fueled by two Frye baskets and a three-pointer from Quentin Richardson put the Knicks up 57-40 before Stojakovic closed out the half by making 1-of-2 free throws.

New York then opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run to take an 18-point lead, but the Kings refused to fold. Sacramento outscored the Knicks 11-4 over the next 2 1/2 minutes to draw within 88-77 with just over seven minutes to go.

The Kings got even closer later on when a Bibby three-pointer with 3:49 to go made the score 95-86. After Antonio Davis made two foul shots for the Knicks, Sacramento recorded the next five points to trim the lead to 97-91 with just over a minute left.

With New York up 99-93 with 47 seconds to play, Bibby was called for a foul on Marbury and Adbur-Rahim received a pair of technicals and an ejection for arguing the call during the ensuing timeout. Marbury hit both attempts from the stripe and Crawford made 1-of-2 on the technical to extend the margin to nine.

Richardson then sealed the win by burying a three-pointer with 22 seconds on the clock.
