Bobcats host Kobe, Lakers

02.3.2006

(Basketball News) - The injury-depleted Charlotte Bobcats hope to put the brakes on their franchise-record 13-game losing streak this evening when they welcome Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers to town.

Charlotte continued its miserable run on Wednesday as Raymond Felton scored 20 points, while Brevin Knight paced the offense with 19 points and 10 assists for the Bobcats, who have lost 17 of 18 and have not won since topping the Houston Rockets back on January 10.

Jumaine Jones netted 13 points, Melvin Ely had 11 and Matt Carroll added 10 points for Charlotte, which has lost six in a row at home.

With forwards Emeka Okafor (ankle), Gerald Wallace (knee) and Sean May (knee), already sidelined, the Bobcats could be without another player up front this evening, as Bernard Robinson (ankle) missed practice on Thursday and will be a game-time decision tonight.

Charlotte, which is in the midst of a six-game homestand, is 7-15 in its arena this season.

Los Angeles, meanwhile, comes in on a sour note after dropping a 105-79 decision to the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse. Kobe Bryant had 26 points on an 8-for-24 shooting performance for the Lakers, who fell to 1-2 on their current seven-game road trip.

It was the first time since January 12 and only the 11th time in 42 games this season that Bryant was held to less than 30 points.

Brian Cook added 12 points for Los Angeles, which scored two fewer points as a team than what Bryant exploded for in his memorable performance January 22 against Toronto.

The Lakers, who will also visit New Orleans/Oklahoma City, Dallas and Houston on their trek, are 12-13 away from home this season.

Los Angeles defeated the Bobcats earlier in the season and has won all three meetings against them.
