Cavs trade Miles to Portland

01.21.2004

Cleveland, OH (Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday traded forward Darius Miles to Portland. In exchange, the Trail Blazers sent point guard Jeff McInnis and center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje to Cleveland.

Miles, 22, had spent the last two seasons in Cleveland after he played the first two years of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers. During his four campaigns in the NBA, Miles has averaged 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

The 6-9, 210-pound Miles has played in 37 games this year and has posted totals of 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing.

Miles was chosen out of high school by Los Angeles with the third pick of the 2000 NBA Draft and was eventually traded to Cleveland in a deal that included Andre Miller.

"Due to his youth he has an opportunity to continue to grow and develop as a player," said Blazers General Manager John Nash. "Darius brings a level of excitement with his ability to run the floor and excel in transition. If he had gone to college, Darius would be a senior right now. With the addition of Darius and the two first round picks we have in the upcoming draft, the franchise is establishing a core of young talent to build around."

McInnis, a seven-year NBA veteran out of North Carolina, has spent the past two seasons in Portland. Prior to that he had stints with Denver, Washington and the Clippers.

The 29-year-old McInnis is averaging 11.9 points and 5.0 assists per game this season. For his career, which spans 349 games, McInnis has scored 10.0 points and handed out 4.3 assists per contest.

McInnis was first selected by the Nuggets in the second round (37th pick overall) of the 1996 NBA Draft, before being waived on later that year.

Boumtje Boumtje had spent the first three years of his career with Portland and has career totals of 1.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
