Allen had surgery at New England Baptist Hospital to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament and to repair cartilage in his left knee. The Celtics said there is no timetable set for Allen’s return.
The 6-foot-4 guard suffered the injury late in the third quarter of the Celtics’ 97-84 loss on Wednesday, when he missed a dunk attempt and came down awkwardly on his left leg. He had to be helped off the court and was taken to Baptist for an MRI.
Allen has appeared in 33 games this season, averaging 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.48 steals.
Allen is the latest in a string of unfortunate injuries the Celtics have had to endure this season. Boston is already dealing with the long-term losses of Paul Pierce and Theo Ratliff, as well as minor hurts to Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West.
