Celtics’ Pierce out 2-3 weeks

12.21.2006

Boston, MA (Basketball News) - Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce will likely miss the next 2-3 weeks with a stress reaction in his left foot, the team announced Thursday.

Pierce hurt his foot last Friday in Boston’s 119-114 win against the Denver Nuggets but continued to play through the pain over the next two games. He aggravated the injury during Wednesday’s 96-95 loss against Golden State before an MRI exam on Thursday morning revealed the damage.

Pierce is averaging a team-leading 26.6 points per game. He also leads the Celtics in rebounds (7.4) and assists (4.3).

Boston hosts Philadelphia on Friday night before beginning a five-game road trip Tuesday in Denver.

The Celtics are also without guard Wally Szczerbiak, who has a sprained right ankle and is out indefinitely.
