Hawks swoop into Charlotte

03.28.2007

(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks will wrap up a short two-game road trip this evening when they pay a visit to the Charlotte Bobcats.

Atlanta has lost four straight and six of its last seven games, including Monday’s 106-89 setback to the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Salim Stoudamire scored 22 points, going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, for the Hawks, losers of eight straight on the road. Josh Smith ended with 20 points and Marvin Williams scored 14 in a losing cause.

The Hawks are 12-24 on the road this season and six games off the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. In injury news for Atlanta, center Zaza Pachulia (illness) is questionable for Wednesday’s game.

Meanwhile, the Bobcats will resume a three-game homestand this evening and have lost two straight and 12 of their last 16 games.

In Saturday’s 113-107 overtime loss to the New Jersey Nets at Charlotte Bobcats Arena, Matt Carroll scored a career-high tying 27 points and Walter Herrmann posted a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds.

Charlotte, decimated by injury, was without Raymond Felton (left quad contusion), Derek Anderson (knee), Sean May (knee), Gerald Wallace (left hip contusion) and Emeka Okafor (calf). Wallace and Felton are probable, while Anderson is questionable and May doubtful for Wednesday’s game. Okafor is expected to miss more time.

The Bobcats, who are 6 1/2 games off a playoff spot in the East, will close out the homestand versus Milwaukee on Friday and are 16-19 at home this season.

Wednesday’s game between Southeast Division rivals is the fourth and final meeting of the regular season. The Bobcats lead the season series, 2-1, and have won four of the last five meetings.

Atlanta has lost four of the five encounters at Charlotte, which leads the all-time series by an 8-3 count.
