Heat try to get back on winning track at MCI Center

12.30.2005

(Basketball News) - The Miami Heat try and get back on the winning track this evening when they wrap up a brief two-game road trip against the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center.

In a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference finals on Thursday the Heat saw their two-game winning streak stopped, as they were upended by the red-hot Detroit Pistons, 106-101, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Dwyane Wade did it all with 33 points, nine assists and six boards but was a non-factor on the defensive end late in the game because of foul trouble.

Shaquille O’Neal scored 26 points and grabbed six rebounds and Jason Williams tallied 20 points for Miami, which fell for just the third time in its last 10 games.

Wade has had success against the Wizards in his career and is averaging 33.0 points his last five games against them, including a season-high 41-point, 10- rebound effort December 11 in a 104-101 overtime win.

The Heat, who are in the midst of playing nine out of 10 games on the road, are 6-9 away from home this season.

Washington, meanwhile, comes in on a losing note as well after falling at home to the Phoenix Suns, 104-99.

Caron Butler had 22 points while Antawn Jamison added 19 for the Wizards, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Gilbert Arenas finished with 16 points and seven assists in the loss.

The Wizards, who will close a four-game homestand against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, are 7-5 in their arena this season.

Miami topped the Wiz earlier in the season and has won nine straight and 10 of the last 12 in the series. The Heat have also won four straight and 11 of 14 in Washington.
