(Basketball News) - The downtrodden Pacers were able to hold on for a 103-97 win over the New York Knicks on Saturday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Jermaine O’Neal scored 33 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to pace Indiana to the win. Ron Artest contributed 22 points and Stephen Jackson netted 19 in the victory, the fifth in seven games for the Pacers to begin the season. O’Neal blocked five shots in the win as well.
Stephon Marbury led the Knicks back from a 21-point deficit and New York trailed just 101-95 in the final minute. Artest, celebrating his 25th birthday, hit two free throws with nine seconds to play in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The start of the game was delayed about 15 minutes because of a faulty shot clock on one of the baskets.
Reggie Miller, Jeff Foster and Anthony Johnson are on the injury list for Indiana, while Jonathan Bender, Fred Jones and Scot Pollard didn’t play for the second straight contest because of a variety of other injuries.
The only subs for the Pacers were Jones, Eddie Gill and rookie David Harrison.
Indiana will get three much-needed days of rest before returning to the hardwood against Atlanta on Wednesday.
