Kings still at the bottom of the Pacific

01.17.2006

(Basketball News) - Sacramento (15-21) is nine games behind the first place Phoenix in the Pacific Division. The Kings host the Suns on Tuesday at ARCO Arena.

It is the second meeting of the season between the Kings and Phoenix. On November 6th, Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 23 points and made two free throws with 13.3 seconds remaining to lift Sacramento to a wild 118-117 victory over Phoenix at America West Arena, which is now called US Airways Center. Abdur- Rahim (jaw) is currently sidelined indefinitely.

The Kings have won six of nine and 11 of the last 16 meetings with Phoenix, which has lost nine of its last 10 at Sacramento.

Sacramento plays the middle contest of a three-game homestand against Phoenix. On Sunday, Mike Bibby scored a career-high 42 points on 13-of-23 shooting from the floor to lead Sacramento over the Orlando Magic, 104-100, at ARCO Arena.

Kevin Martin contributed 22 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the win over Orlando for the Kings, who won for the second time in their last five games overall. Two-time All-Star Brad Miller had a solid all-around game with 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Peja Stojakovic did not play against Orlando for the Kings, as he missed his second straight game with a sore back. The sharp-shooting forward is questionable for tonight’s contest. He is averaging 16.6 points in 28 games this season.

Sacramento is 10-11 at ARCO Arena this season. The Kings will play Kobe Bryant and the Lakers on Thursday in the finale of the current stand.

Bibby has scored over 25 points in five of his last nine contests. He leads the Kings in scoring (19.9 ppg) and assists (5.4 apg.). The 6-1 guard has collected three double-doubles this season.

The Kings have scored over 100 points just once in their last five games.
