Lakers, Spurs meet at SBC Center

11.29.2005

(Basketball News) - Two teams that are trying to get back on the winning track meet tonight, as the San Antonio Spurs welcome the Los Angeles Lakers to the SBC Center.

The Spurs have won five straight and nine of the last 12 meetings in this series. The Lakers have lost two straight and five of their last seven at San Antonio.

San Antonio will try and bounce back from a shocking loss. On Friday, Chris Duhon scored 18 points and Ben Gordon added 19 off the bench, as the Chicago Bulls defeated the Spurs, 106-99, at SBC Center.

Tim Duncan netted 24 points with 11 boards and four blocks in the loss to Chicago for the Spurs, who had their five-game winning streak come to an end. Manu Ginobili finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Michael Finley netted 12 off the bench in defeat.

The Spurs are 5-1 at home this season. After tonight’s contest, San Antonio will hit the road for a game against Southwest Division rival Dallas on Thursday at American Airlines Center.

LA is fresh of going 2-3 on a five-game homestand. On Sunday, Jason Kidd scored a season-high 35 points, including five in overtime, to lift the New Jersey Nets to a 102-96 win over the Lakers at Staples Center. Kidd also dished out 12 assists in the win.

Superstar Kobe Bryant poured in a season-high 46 points in the loss to New Jersey for the Lakers, who have dropped three of their last four games overall. Brian Cook chipped in 14 points in the setback.

In overtime, Kidd hit one free throw to give New Jersey a 96-93 lead with 3:03 left and the margin later grew to seven on his breakaway layup with 1:14 remaining. The Nets, who never trailed in the game, were not threatened again and posted the six-point win.

The Lakers are 2-3 on the road this season. They have dropped three straight as the visitor.
